California Cavern. Saturday went to my second cavern experience. Having gotten stuck last time, the fear haunts me a little and I wasn't as adventurous (see my July 21, 2003 blog). The entire expedition took 5 hours.
Highlights include:
-driving to and from the cave with ique 3600. GPS are great, would be lost in the dark without it. It even helped us found a nearby restaurant.
-seeing some unique cave formations
-walking in knee deep mud water
-squeezing through a hole too small for a standard size basketball
-trying to pull your boots out of sticky mud
-rafting across a 40ft deep lake inside the cave
-taking shower in a stall with no roof
-finding that we were still in the mode of looking for holes to squeeze through at the steakhouse
See Freddy's pictures here.
Thanks Freddy!

Feeling broken?
Have you ever...
stuck your hand out to feed a starved-crazed dog barking ferociously at you and you knew it would either take out a chunk of your skin or leave teeth-marks on you?
Have you ever...
used all of your energy to pull weeks after weeks of all-nighters on a project that you knew it was going nowhere and that in the end you would not receive any recognition or appreciation?
Have you ever...
sold everything you have and taken your hard-earned savings down to the last penny to invest in something that you knew it would come back empty?
Have you ever...
given a precious gift that you treasured all your life to someone who you knew would treat it like trash?
Have you ever...
chosen to love someone with all of your heart knowing that this person has a history of doubting your love over and over and will distance themselves from you, and continue to break your heart?
In our society, we would be called fools if we do things that has no benefits. Oh, how hurtful it is to us when we put in our efforts only to find that the effort was wasted.
Isn't God's love amazing? Can you imagine if God ever based His actions on benefits? What kind of benefits can we give to the One who is the creator of everything? God's love is perfect in every way. Without conditions. Without limits. Beautiful beyond description.
From the secret place, it was taken out, exposed in its most naked and vulnerable form. A hope that it would be appreciated, handled with care, valued. Instead it was taken for granted, beaten, stabbed, kicked around, thrown around, tossed to the side. It was broken.
The next time when we feel broken, we should thank God for opening up ways of fellowship with His Son.
May our hearts be broken by the things that break the heart of God.

So High
Words and Music by Barry Patterson and Michelle Patterson
VERSE:
Lord, these are just words
and are not enough to contain You
Jesus, just words
and never suffice to acclaim You
PRE-CHORUS:
Father, just words and I have so few
I run out too fast to speak them to You
CHORUS:
You are indescribable
You are beyond expression
I run out of words for You
I can't think that high
so hear my spirit groan in me
a painful sense of urgency
to tell You that You are to me so high
